Sarah E. Chinn is a Professor in the Department of English at Hunter College, City University of New York, School of Arts and Sciences. She has been a faculty member since 2001 and currently chairs the Hunter College Senate (May 2023–present), following prior leadership roles as Executive Director of CLAGS: The Center for LGBT Studies (2007–2011) and Chair of the English Department (2014–2021).

Prof. Chinn's research critically examines intersections of race, gender, disability, and nationhood in 19th-century American literature and culture. Her work spans Disability Studies, Childhood Studies, and queer narratives, contextualizing historical constructions of the body and identity within Civil War and Reconstruction eras. She teaches diverse courses from Nineteenth Century Women Writers to Post-1945 Queer Narratives, emphasizing marginalized perspectives.
