Sarah Chinn is Professor of English at Hunter College, CUNY, specializing in 19th century US literatures and cultures, Disability Studies, LGBT literature, and Childhood Studies. Awarded the American Literature Society's 1921 Prize in 2020, she has authored four books including Disability, The Body, and Radical Intellectuals in the Literature of the Civil War and Reconstruction (2024).
As co-editor in chief of J19: The Journal of 19th Century Americanists, she oversees scholarly discourse in her field. Her administrative service includes terms as English Department Chair (2014-2021) and current role as Hunter College Senate Chair.
Current research examines Sarah Emma Edmonds' Civil War cross-disting narrative and representations of boy soldiers. She also publishes poetry in literary journals.
