Dr Sarah Crowther is a University Teacher in Film Studies at the University of Sheffield's School of English. She previously taught at Leeds Trinity University and Swansea University, where she won the 2019 College of Arts and Humanities Teacher of the Year award. Her research focuses on horror and comedy film intersections, drag/transvestism in horror, and cross-genre themes. She directed the 11th Fantastic Films Weekend at the National Media Museum and curates projects like the digital art gallery '[open source] Is the Internet You Know Under Threat?' as part of the Life Online project. She has served on film festival juries and contributed to Diabolique magazine and Metro newspaper.
Research interests include abjection, excess, and absurdity in horror/comedy, with a completed PhD titled 'Bloody Disgusting! Abjection, Excess and Absurdity' that included an original horror comedy script. She has presented at The Miskatonic Institute of Horror Studies and seeks to further explore drag representation in horror media.
