معرفی
Sarah Castle is an Assistant Professor in the Mathematical and Statistical Sciences Department at the University of Idaho, with an affiliation in the Curriculum and Instruction Department within the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences. She earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education (2023) and an M.S. in Mathematics (2022) from Michigan State University.
Her research focuses on two core areas: (1) using computational tools to reveal and address systemic inequities in undergraduate STEM, and (2) fostering mathematical creativity through coding and computational thinking for marginalized students. She investigates how computing environments enhance student exploration, resilience, and ownership of mathematical concepts, contrasting traditional formulaic views of mathematics.
Her publications highlight the pedagogical power of Jupyter Notebooks in linear algebra education, groupwork dynamics in linguistically diverse classrooms, and multi-institutional equity frameworks for STEM courses. She has presented at conferences like the ACM Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education and the Research in Undergraduate Mathematics Education Conference.
She contributes to teams such as the SEISMIC Project, Transition to Proof Project, and Computational Education Research Lab, advancing data-driven equity initiatives and proof-based pedagogy. Her teaching experience spans instructor roles, TA positions, and curriculum development for K-12 through university levels.
