Jonathan Graves

Dr. Jonathan Graves is an Associate Professor of Teaching and Director of Undergraduate Studies (Curriculum and Students) at the Vancouver School of Economics (VSE) at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He holds a PhD in Economics from UBC and is affiliated with the Institute for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), the Center for Community Engaged Learning, and the Center for Computational Social Science.

Education:

• BSc in Economics and Mathematics, University of Victoria
• MA and PhD in Economics, University of British Columbia

Research Interests: Dr. Graves focuses on pedagogical innovation, including community-engaged learning, Indigenous curriculum development, and experiential learning tools. His economic research spans applied microeconomics and industrial organization. He also explores evidence-based teaching methods and undergraduate research opportunities.

Teaching & Curriculum: He teaches undergraduate economics courses at VSE, emphasizing data analysis and modeling. His work includes curriculum mapping, alternative assessment strategies, and computational learning tools (e.g., Jupyter notebooks).

Labs/Teams: Collaborates with the Institute for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, Center for Community Engaged Learning, and Center for Computational Social Science to advance educational and research initiatives.
