Sarah Bent serves as a Staff Lecturer in the Professional and Graduate Education (PaGE) unit at Mount Holyoke College, teaching in the Master of Arts in Teaching and Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics programs. Prior to this role, she taught third and fourth grades at New Hingham Regional Elementary School and served as a visiting instructor for Mount Holyoke's graduate teaching programs, while also holding an adjunct faculty position at Westfield State University.
Her educational background includes:
- Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) from Mount Holyoke College
- Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from Westfield State University
Bent specializes in elementary mathematics education with a research focus on developing students' conception of proof. She created the Math Leadership Program's microburst series—a free national professional learning resource for school administrators—and her classroom videos are widely used for teacher training across the United States. Her work bridges practical classroom experience with evidence-based strategies for mathematical reasoning.
She recently served as collaborating teacher for a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded project titled "Using Routines as a Strategy for Developing Elementary Students’ Conception of Proof," demonstrating her commitment to advancing foundational math education through structured pedagogical approaches.
