Sarah Bekaert is a Senior Lecturer at Oxford Brookes University’s Oxford School of Nursing and Midwifery. She leads research inTeenaged Pregnancy, Intimate Partner Violence, and Public Health, particularly focusing on adolescent health and safeguarding. Her role includes teaching Research Methods and Dissertation modules across undergraduate and postgraduate programs, as well as supervising 5 PhD students. She directs the Children and Families Research Group and serves as the Departmental Research Ethics Officer.
Education: RN, BSc Nursing, MSc Sexual and Reproductive Health, Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice.
Research interests include teen motherhood, school nursing practices during crises, and violence reduction strategies. Her work emphasizes evidence-based interventions for vulnerable youth and families. Recent projects involve evaluating trauma-informed support programs (e.g., the Navigator Project) and investigating barriers to HIV services for Black African women in Oxfordshire.
Her publications span nursing education adaptations during pandemics, school nursing innovations, and child protection practices across Europe. Awards include the Round Table Global Youth Award for empowering projects in 2020.
