Sarah Beckjord

Sarah Beckjord is an Associate Professor of Hispanic Studies at Boston College’s Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Romance Languages and Literatures. She holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University. Her research focuses on Latin American literature and culture, particularly the colonial period and 19th century, with expertise in historiography and narrative theory.

Her major work, Territories of History (2007), examines early colonial chronicles. Recent publications include entries in Lexikon of the Hispanic Baroque (2014) and contributions to volumes on Inca Garcilaso de la Vega’s Comentarios Reales. She has presented at conferences such as the Renaissance Society of America and MLA, focusing on colonial texts, memory, and literary imagination.

Beckjord’s scholarly contributions bridge historical analysis and literary criticism, emphasizing how colonial narratives shaped cultural identities. Her work often explores themes like historiography, rhetoric, and the intersection of poetry/history in early Spanish American texts.
