Sarah Assaad holds dual roles at University College London (UCL): she is a Lecturer in Epidemiology and Statistics at the Division of Psychiatry and a Research Fellow in Cognitive Ageing and Dementia Epidemiology at the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health. She is based at UCL's locations in London, including Maple House and Torrington Place.
Education: She earned a PhD in Public Health and Primary Care from the University of Cambridge (2018-2022), supported by a Cambridge Trust Scholarship. Earlier, she obtained a Master of Public Health (Epidemiology and Biostatistics) and a BSc in Medical Laboratory Sciences from the American University of Beirut (AUB).
Research: Her work focuses on cognitive ageing, dementia epidemiology, and socio-economic determinants of health in older adults. Key projects include the ELSA-HCAP initiative and the 10/66 dementia cohort study in Lebanon. She has developed a longitudinal index of social well-being and explored social health's role in healthcare utilization.
Awards: She received Emerging Scholar Awards (2019, 2021) and the Cambridge Trust Scholarship. Her contributions include peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations on age-related health disparities.
Teaching/Advising: She leads the 'Practical Statistics for Mental Health Research' module at UCL's MSc level and supervises MSc thesis projects. She also provides statistical support to students.
Languages: Fluent in English, French, Arabic, Italian (intermediate), and Japanese (conversational). Available for supervision, teaching, consultancy, and conference participation.
