Dr. Sara W. Day serves as Professor and Assistant Dean for the Center for Community and Global Partnerships at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Nursing. Her internationally recognized career spans clinical leadership at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and academic roles at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Her pioneering research focuses on pediatric oncology nursing standards and sickle cell disease management, notably developing the first multi-phased parent education program for infants with sickle cell disease that reduced pneumococcal sepsis mortality. She created the globally adopted Baseline Standards for Pediatric Oncology Nurses in Low- and Middle-Income Countries, implemented across 49 sites in 29 countries and published in eight languages. Her work bridges clinical practice, education, and global health equity.
Dr. Day's scientific recognition includes:

She has secured major research funding from the National Institutes of Health, Health Resources and Services Administration, Centers for Disease Control, and global health organizations. As Assistant Dean, she leads the Center for Community and Global Partnerships, directing initiatives like the Sickle Cell Nursing Boot Camp and international nursing capacity-building programs.
