Sara Skoog Waller is a University lecturer at the University of Gävle and an Assistant lecturer at the National Centre for Women's Peace (Uppsala University). Her research focuses on gender-based violence, particularly post-separation abuse, and its effects on victims' autonomy, health, and housing. She earned her PhD in Psychology in December 2019.
Her doctoral work explored the intersection of witness psychology and language perception. Current research projects include "A place of one's own" (funded by Forte), examining housing solutions for violence victims, and "After violence and health" (funded by NCK), investigating health consequences of post-separation abuse.
Sara's research interests encompass gender-based violence, domestic violence, post-separation abuse, social isolation, coercive control, and place identity. She studies how abuse impacts women's quality of life, safety, and decision-making, especially in custody and housing contexts, and evaluates systemic responses by authorities.
Recent publications analyze 'lonelification' in domestic violence and women's experiences of post-separation abuse. These works highlight the pervasive psychological and social harm of ongoing abuse and the critical need for integrated support systems.
Sara leads and collaborates on multiple funded projects addressing violence prevention, victim support, and housing. She works with interdisciplinary teams from universities, county boards, and government agencies to develop practical guidelines and policy improvements.
As a lecturer, she mentors psychology students, integrating her research on violence into teaching. Her projects provide student research opportunities in a vital area of social justice.
