Prof. Sara Simonini is a Professor in the Department of Plant and Microbial Biology at the University of Zurich. Her research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying plant development, particularly the role of Polycomb group proteins and epigenetic regulation in seed and embryo formation. She leads a laboratory investigating how Polycomb Repressive Complex 2 (PRC2) modulates gene expression during embryogenesis and organ patterning. Her work integrates genetic, molecular, and biochemical approaches to study developmental processes in Arabidopsis.
Her research interests include the identification of PRC2 recruiters and non-histonic targets, as well as their roles in cell cycle regulation and tissue specification. She explores how epigenetic memory mechanisms contribute to developmental stability and plasticity.
Open positions are available for bachelor and master thesis projects focusing on epigenetic regulation in seed development, Polycomb protein functions, and transcriptional control. Students gain expertise in molecular biology, genetics, and proteomics. Her lab is located in BOT P2.14, and inquiries can be directed to her email.
