Dr. Sara Ramos Pinto is an Associate Professor in Translation Studies at the University of Leeds, affiliated with the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies. She holds additional roles as a board member of ESIST and a research collaborator at the University of Lisbon's Centre for Anglophone Studies. Her academic journey includes postdoctoral positions at the University of Turku and the University of Manchester, and she earned her PhD from the University of Lisbon and University College London (2010).
Her research focuses on audiovisual translation, particularly subtitling and multimodal analysis. Key projects include Subtitling 3.0, exploring enhanced subtitling practices, and the UK Subtitling Audiences Network, investigating audience reception. She has led initiatives such as the Director of Translation Studies (2014–2017) and the MA in Audiovisual Translation (2019–2022).
Her work bridges Translation Studies with Multimodal and Cultural Studies, emphasizing empirical data collection through reception studies and collaborations with industry professionals. She has published widely, including co-authoring Introduction to Translation Studies (2022) and editing volumes like Audiovisual Translation: Theoretical and Methodological Challenges (2018).
Dr. Pinto supervises eight PhD students focusing on audiovisual translation and localization. She maintains active industry ties through consultancy and participatory research, aiming to influence subtitling practices and accessibility standards globally.
