Hannah Silvester is a Lecturer in French at University College Cork, specializing in audiovisual translation and subtitling. She holds a Ph.D. from Glasgow and researches non-standard language translation in French cinema.
Her work examines how subtitling practices affect character identity representation, particularly in banlieue films. Silvester co-founded SubComm to bridge academic-industry collaboration in subtitling.
She teaches French translation theory and practice at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Current projects include studies on gender in audiovisual translation and subtitler working conditions.
Silvester serves as Communications Officer for ESIST and publishes on translation methodology and film reception.
