Sara Pashan is a Sessional Lecturer in the Department of Central, Eastern, and Northern European Studies (CENES) at the University of British Columbia (UBC), affiliated with the Faculty of Arts. She specializes in German Studies and teaches first- and second-year German language courses (e.g., GERM 100 and 200). Her research interests include German cinema, migrant studies, feminist studies, and cultural analysis, with a focus on power structures in historical films like Mädchen in Uniform.

- M.A. in German Studies, UBC, 2014
- B.A. with double major in German Studies and Psychology, UBC, 2011
Research & Committees: Sara contributes to curriculum renewal in German Studies and cultural diversity initiatives. Her M.A. thesis applied psychoanalytic theory to Leontine Sagan’s 1931 film Mädchen in Uniform. She also chairs committees addressing cultural updates and diversity in German-speaking countries for UBC’s German Language Program.
Awards & Recognition:

- Recipient of multiple UBC tuition awards and the 2003 German Consulate writing prize
Teaching Experience: Taught German as a foreign language in Frankfurt, Germany, and served as a substitute teacher in Berlin. Holds a CELTA certification (2014) for teaching English to non-native speakers.
