Dariya McEwen is a Lecturer of Russian and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Russian program at the University of British Columbia's Department of Central, Eastern, and Northern European Studies (CENES), within the Faculty of Arts. She has been affiliated with UBC since 2005.
Her education includes Masters degrees in Russian Language and Literature (from Lugansk State University, Ukraine) and Liberal Studies (Simon Fraser University, Canada). She is currently pursuing a PhD focusing on the symbolic role of historical personalities in Russian literature and culture, examining tensions between official historiography and marginalized narratives through literature, memoirs, and personal documents.
Teaching responsibilities include courses such as Representations of the Holocaust, Nineteenth-Century Russophone Literature, and advanced Russian literature and film studies. Her research interests emphasize cultural analysis of Russian literary traditions and the intersection of history and narrative.
