Sara Melo

Dr Sara Melo is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Management at Queen's Business School, Queen's University Belfast. Her research focuses on healthcare management, quality improvement, innovation management, and the implementation of new technologies in healthcare and other sectors using qualitative methods. She explores organizational dynamics in healthcare quality initiatives, including the role of networks, place, and governance models.

Education: PhD in Management (University of York), MSc in Management (University of Porto), and Licenciatura in Management (University of Porto). Professional experience includes roles as a Research Fellow at Trinity College Dublin and Teaching Fellow at the University of York. She currently teaches courses such as MGT9026 (Strategy-making for managers) and MGT7171 (Human Capital Development).

Research projects include studies on hospital Business Intelligence systems, clinical nutrition improvement, smart home health monitoring, and IoT in coffee production. She leads grants such as the ESRC-funded project on Business Intelligence in Portuguese NHS hospitals. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in healthcare quality and ageing.
