Sara M. Butler is Professor and King George III Chair in British History at Ohio State University, with joint appointments in History, Women's Studies, and Art History. A Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, she researches medieval legal history, focusing on marital violence, forensic medicine, and gender in law courts. Her award-winning publications include four monographs on topics ranging from medieval divorce to peine forte et dure.
Courses cover Crusades history, Tudor-Stuart Britain, witchcraft studies, and medieval crime investigation. She co-founded the 'Legal History Miscellany' blog to make early English legal history accessible. Current projects examine malicious homicide accusations in 13th-century England.
