Alice L. Conklin is Arts and Sciences Distinguished Professor of History at Ohio State University and faculty affiliate at the Mershon Center for International Security Studies. She specializes in cultural, political, and intellectual history of Modern France and its Empire, focusing on the 20th century. Her research explores themes of race, anthropology, and colonialism.
Her research interests include comparative empires, racial anthropology in colonial contexts, and the history of anti-racism movements. Current work examines French antiracism (1945-1965) and she is co-editing 'The Cambridge Companion to the French Empire'.
Conklin leads the 'Between France and Morocco' Study Abroad Program examining inclusion/exclusion dynamics in the Francophone world. Her scholarship has received multiple awards recognizing both academic excellence and contributions to diversity education.
