Dr. Kristin Hickman is the Croft Assistant Professor of Anthropology and International Studies at the University of Mississippi's Croft Institute for International Studies. Her research focuses on language politics, cultural production, and Moroccan Arabic (Darija) in contemporary urban Morocco. She holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Chicago (2019) and a B.A. from Barnard College in Anthropology and French & Francophone Studies.

Her work examines debates over colloquial Moroccan Arabic’s role in public discourse and its sociopolitical implications. Since 2006, she has conducted extensive fieldwork in Morocco, with additional research in Egypt, Oman, and France. Her publications explore language ideology, media localization, and colonial-era pedagogy reforms. She currently teaches at the University of Mississippi and advises the Croft Institute’s international studies programs.
