Sara Kuebbing is a Research Scientist and Lecturer at the Yale School of the Environment (YSE), serving as the Director of Research for the Yale Applied Science Synthesis Program (YASSP). She holds a PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Tennessee and a BS in Entomology & Wildlife Conservation from the University of Delaware. Prior to Yale, she was an Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh's Department of Biological Sciences.
Her research focuses on conservation biology, invasion biology, and ecosystem ecology, emphasizing how human decisions impact landscape and species conservation. She collaborates with scientists, land managers, and policymakers to bridge applied science and sustainable land management. YASSP, under her leadership, fosters interdisciplinary collaboration to advance science-driven solutions for environmental challenges.
Key research interests include phenological responses to climate change, invasive species impacts, and agroforestry. Her work highlights the intersection of ecological science with policy and practice. Kuebbing teaches courses such as ENV 567a on forest carbon crediting and synthesizing science for policy.
Her affiliations include the Yale Center for Natural Carbon Capture and the Forest School at YSE. She actively publishes on topics like carbon sequestration, invasive plant dynamics, and climate-smart forestry, contributing to both academic and applied environmental discourse.
