Sara Gombatto is a Professor in the Department of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences at San Diego State University (SDSU). Her research focuses on rehabilitation biomechanics, particularly mechanisms underlying chronic-recurrent low back pain (LBP), using advanced tools like 3D movement analysis, MRI, and portable motion sensors.
Education:
- PhD in Movement Science, Washington University
- MS in Physical Therapy, Ithaca College
- BS in Clinical Science, Ithaca College
Research Interests:
- Biomechanics of low back pain
- 3D motion analysis
- Posture and movement relationships
- Development of portable movement monitoring systems
Recent Article Trends: Her work explores differences in lumbar and lower extremity kinematics between LBP and non-LBP cohorts, biopsychosocial risk factors post-amputation, BMI impacts on lumbar surgery outcomes, and sensor-based kinematic monitoring.
Labs & Teams: She leads the Rehabilitation Biomechanics Laboratory at SDSU, integrating clinical and laboratory-based analyses to advance understanding of movement-related impairments.
