Dr. Wolbert van den Hoorn is a Research Fellow and Senior Research Fellow at The University of Queensland's School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. He holds a PhD from The University of Queensland. His research focuses on biomechanics, neuromuscular adaptations to pain, postural control, and wearable sensor technologies in spine care.

Research interests include low back pain mechanisms, musculoskeletal adaptations, and clinical applications of wearable sensors. He has published extensively on topics like spinal coordination, muscle synergies, and postural stability in pain conditions.
Recent work highlights include studies on footwear effects in plantar heel pain, shoulder mobility assessment, and systematic reviews on trunk postural control. He received the ISSLS Prize in Clinical Science 2018 for his analysis of inflammatory factors in low back pain.
Current grants involve developing wearable muscle measurement systems and investigating low back pain recurrence mechanisms. He supervises PhD candidates exploring postural control in scoliosis, neuromechanical motor recruitment, and sport injury prevention.
