Sara Edenheim is an Associate Professor in History and Senior Lecturer at the Umeå Centre for Gender Studies (UCGS) at Umeå University. Her research focuses on feminist theory, critical policy analysis, queer temporalities, and the intersections between welfare state development and identity politics. She holds a Docent qualification, indicating advanced academic distinction.
Her work critically examines concepts like tolerance, neoliberalism, and historical temporality through genealogical methodologies. A key project, 'Being tolerant' (funded by the Swedish Research Council), studies tolerance as a political discourse in late modernity, analyzing its role in governance and societal strategies. Another focus is queer temporalities, exploring archive theory and psychoanalytic frameworks to challenge dominant historical narratives.
Publications span feminist philosophy, political theory, and historiography, with recent works in The South Atlantic Quarterly, differences, and Journal of Northern Studies. She critiques liberal identity politics and neoliberal frameworks, emphasizing the politicization of time and temporality in Nordic contexts.
Her interdisciplinary approach bridges philosophy, history, and gender studies, addressing topics like state power, historical unconsciousness, and the ethics of care. Current research includes analysis of pandemic-era welfare policies and the intersection of national security strategies with gendered discourses.
