Sara Daub

Sara Daub is a DAAD Postdoctoral Fellow at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), based at the Henry A. Kissinger Center for Global Affairs. She concurrently serves as a Research Fellow at the Hertie School’s Centre for International Security in Berlin. Her work is supported by the German Federal Foreign Office and DAAD funding.

Dr. Daub holds a PhD in Political Science from the Hertie School (2024), a Master’s degree in Development Studies with a specialization in Economics from the University of Passau (2019), and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Göttingen (2017). During her doctoral studies, she completed a Fulbright research stay at the University of Maryland, College Park, and was a DAAD-funded visiting researcher at Uppsala University and the University of York.

Her research focuses on international relations, with specializations in conflict dynamics, migration studies, and diaspora politics. She employs quantitative and mixed-method approaches to study non-state actors, rebel governance, foreign aid, and foreign policy preferences. Current research examines external actors’ impact on conflict dynamics and civilian victimization, as well as diaspora foreign policy preferences.

• Awards: Recipient of the Christiane-Rajewsky-Preis 2025 for her PhD dissertation on diaspora sponsorship of rebel organizations.

In advising and grants, Dr. Daub has benefited from prestigious fellowships including Fulbright and DAAD support. Her work aligns with research centers such as the Kissinger Center for Global Affairs and the Hertie School’s International Security unit. She collaborates with academic networks like the Centre for the Comparative Study of Civil War at York and the Center for International Development and Conflict Management at Maryland.
