Sara Byron

Dr. Sara Byron serves as Research Associate Professor and Director of the Bioinnovation and Genome Sciences Division at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen), with additional leadership as Director of the Center for Translational Innovation. Her role bridges genomic discovery with clinical oncology applications through translational research initiatives.

• Ph.D. in Pharmacology, University of Minnesota (focused on insulin-like growth factor receptor mechanisms in breast cancer)

Dr. Byron's research program centers on genomic drivers of cancer development and treatment response, utilizing integrated multi-omic analyses and computational biology approaches. Her work specifically addresses rare cancers, women's malignancies, and cancer health disparities through molecular tumor board participation and clinical decision support for pediatric/adult oncology cases. The division leverages spatial multi-omics and proteomics technologies to identify targetable genomic features in treatment-resistant cancers.

Under her leadership, the Bioinnovation and Genome Sciences Division operates the Center for Translational Innovation, focusing on accelerating genomic discoveries into clinical practice through collaborative projects like the kidney cancer initiative with City of Hope.
