SARA DENİZ AKANT is a Professor of the Practice in Poetry at Tufts University’s Department of English, part of the School of Arts and Sciences. Her work focuses on Creative Writing, Poetry and Poetics, and Aesthetics. She is the author of three acclaimed poetry books, including Hyperphantasia (2022), which earned the Massachusetts Book Award and recognition as a New York Times and Boston Globe Book of the Year. Her earlier works, Babette (2015) and Parades (2014), won prestigious prizes.
Education includes a PhD from The Graduate Center, CUNY, and an MFA from The Iowa Writers Workshop. She teaches undergraduate creative writing courses in poetry, directs the creative writing program at Tufts, and oversees senior honors theses. Akant co-curates the Kan Yama Kan reading series in Brooklyn and maintains an active public engagement with literary communities.
