Sara Agnelli is a researcher at the University of Florida's One Health Center of Excellence, where she conducts interdisciplinary work bridging classical humanities with scientific disciplines. She holds a B.A. (2006, summa cum laude) and M.Phil. (2009) in Classics from Catholic University in Milan, and a Ph.D. (2016) in Classics from the University of Florida. Previously, she taught in UF's Classics and Languages, Literatures and Cultures departments.
Her research explores:
- Historical analysis of health/disease through classical perspectives
- Integration of arts/humanities in medical education
- Science communication through artistic narratives (art, music, literature)
- One Health interdisciplinary frameworks
- Cross-cultural examinations of knowledge systems
She has received academic honors including summa cum laude distinctions and served as UF's Creative Scholar-in-Residence (2019-2020).
She mentors graduate/undergraduate students and leads initiatives including:
- OH Leonardo Fellowship program for interdisciplinary research
- S.H.E. Talks seminar series co-leadership
- Interdisciplinary lab studying arts in medical education (IRB202200080)
She collaborates extensively with UF's College of the Arts and Global Learning Institute, co-creating exhibits like 'Pop Microscopy' and 'Vitruvian Women' that merge scientific and artistic perspectives.
