Sanyu A. Mojola

Sanyu A. Mojola is Professor of Sociology and Public Affairs and Maurice P. During Professor of Demographic Studies at Princeton University. She served as Director of the Office of Population Research (2020-2024) and conducts mixed-methods research on health inequalities, particularly HIV/AIDS epidemiology across global contexts.

Her research examines how gender, race, life course transitions, and socioeconomic factors shape health outcomes in settings including Kenya, South Africa, and the United States. She has led NIH-funded projects on aging populations in HIV-endemic areas and authored award-winning books analyzing women's health experiences in epidemic contexts.

Her publications investigate health perceptions in rural communities, social dimensions of HIV/AIDS, and changing illness landscapes. She received the American Sociological Association's Distinguished Scholarly Book Award for her analysis of gender and HIV in Africa.
