Santiago Papini is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Hawaii. His academic journey includes a PhD in Clinical Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin (2021), an MA in Mental Health Counseling from City College of New York (2013), and an MS in Secondary Mathematics Education from Pace University (2008). Prior to his academic career, he taught calculus and statistics at a Brooklyn high school.
His research focuses on psychopathology, particularly the heterogeneity of psychiatric comorbidity and trauma-related clinical populations. At the Targeted Interventions Lab, he develops predictive modeling strategies for personalized mental health interventions, integrates genomic data for risk estimation, and applies causal inference methods to addiction, anxiety, and stress-related disorders. His work targets transdiagnostic mechanisms to improve treatment precision.
Notable awards include the NIMH T32 Research Fellowship (2023) and UC President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship (2021). He teaches courses such as PSY 212: Research Methods and PSY 675: Treatment Research, emphasizing skills for careers in clinical science and leadership.
