Prof. Sanne Akkerman is a Professor of Education and Learning Sciences at Utrecht University's Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, Department of Education. Her research focuses on boundary crossing, interdisciplinary education, and interest development, particularly in the context of youth transitions and higher education choices. She leads projects like the ERC-funded 'Lost in Transition' and NRO's 'Interest in Diversity,' examining adolescents' interests and societal engagement. Notable contributions include the smartphone app 'inTin' for experience sampling and the 'UniCity' initiative for community-focused education.
Research interests span boundary crossing challenges, educational pathways, and the dynamics of youth development. Her work integrates social psychology, educational theory, and digital media to address contemporary learning environments. Awards include the 2016 ERC Starting Grant. Current projects emphasize ontological synchronization in education and the role of online platforms in affinity-based learning.
