Monique Verhoeven is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Education at Utrecht University’s Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. Her work centers on promoting equal opportunities in education through research and teaching.

Research Focus: Educational inequality, learner identity development, cultural diversity in classrooms, and sociocultural influences on student learning. She contributes to the Dynamics of Youth (DoY) program, particularly projects like Becoming Adults in a Changing World and Youth Education & Life Skills.
Teaching: Lectures on pedagogy, diversity-sensitive teaching, and learning theories in Utrecht University’s Graduate School of Teaching and research master program Educational Sciences: Learning in Interaction.
Supervision: Mentors internships for student teachers and supervises PhD research, including Indy Joosten’s project on Interest and Diversity in and beyond Educational Arrangements.
