Sanna Piilo is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Helsinki, affiliated with the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences and the Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science (HELSUS). Her research focuses on environmental sciences, particularly peatland ecology, paleoecology, and climate change impacts on Arctic and subarctic ecosystems. She actively participates in international collaborations, with projects like Jääkauden jälkeisten ekosysteemimuutoste and CHARTER: Drivers and Feedbacks of Changes in Arctic Terrestrial Biodiversity.
Her work examines peatland carbon accumulation, hydrological shifts, and vegetation succession in response to warm and cold climate events over centuries. Notable trends in her publications include analyzing regime shifts in Greenland and Finland, fire history in boreal ecosystems, and peatland responses to Holocene climate variability. She frequently presents at global conferences and collaborates with institutions in Canada, Norway, and the EU.
