Sanna Pakarinen is a Lecturer at Åbo Akademi University's Faculty of Education and Welfare Studies. She specializes in early childhood education and multilingualism, with a focus on Swedish-medium educational environments in Finland. She holds a PhD from the University of Jyväskylä and actively contributes to research projects related to language instruction and linguistic diversity.
Research Focus: Her work examines linguistic and semiotic landscapes in early childhood education, language socialization processes, and the integration of Swedish immersion programs. She explores how educators navigate multilingual classrooms and the role of parents and teachers in shaping language policies.
Recent Publications: Her 2024 article analyzes teacher reflections on linguistic diversity in Swedish-medium ECEC units, while her 2023 publication addresses Swedish as a second national language in Finland. Her 2022 work investigates language socialization dynamics in Swedish immersion education.
Projects: Pakarinen serves as Principal Investigator for initiatives like ProSpectS (Professional Practice in Finnish Language Immersion) and SPÅRA (Language-Integrated Subject Teaching in Immersion), funded by the Swedish Cultural Foundation.
