معرفی
Dr. Sanjay Swaminathan is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Sydney's Westmead Clinical School, within the Department of Medicine (Immunology and Infectious Diseases). He holds leadership roles as Head of Immunology and Allergy at Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals. His expertise spans clinical practice, research, and teaching in immunology, allergy, and infectious diseases, with a focus on HIV, EBV, and autoimmune conditions.
Swaminathan's research centers on viral-immune interactions, particularly how EBV modulates gene expression in autoimmune diseases and HIV pathogenesis. He leads the EBV Molecular Laboratory, employing experimental and computational methods to explore therapeutic targets. His work includes miRNA studies linking EBV to immune dysregulation and gender-based disease disparities.
- Education: PhD on HIV-1 miRNA research under Prof. Anthony Kelleher, followed by postdoctoral training at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research.
- Teaching: Modules in AMED 3003 and AMED 3888 courses.
- International Collaborations: France (INSERM on miR-155) and the USA (Frederick National Lab on HIV-IL-27 mechanisms).
His recent publications (2023) highlight breakthroughs in Sjögren’s syndrome biomarkers, neuropsychiatric lupus diagnostics, and EBV-MS genetic interactions. He has secured grants from Multiple Sclerosis Research Australia targeting EBV-based therapies.
- Awards: FAAAAAI (2023), ASCIA membership.
- Grants: Over $500k in funding for EBV therapeutic strategies and MS research since 2019.
His lab explores innovative treatments like siRNA targeting EBV proteins and investigates gender-specific immune responses in autoimmunity.
