Sanjay Sisodiya is a Professor of Neurology at University College London (UCL) and Honorary Consultant Neurologist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square. His research focuses on the genetic causes of epilepsy, treatment responses, drug resistance, population genetics, pharmacogenomics, neuropathology, and genetic neuroimaging. With clinical training at Guy's Hospital and postgraduate experience at Oxford and Queen Square, he has become a leading figure in epilepsy research.
- Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), University of London (1996)
- Member of the Royal College of Physicians (1991)
- Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (1988)
- Bachelor of Arts, University of Cambridge (1985)
His research integrates genetics and neurology to explore epilepsy's molecular mechanisms. Recent work examines climate change impacts on neurological diseases, drug-resistant epilepsy genomics, and SUDEP risk prediction. He has published extensively on topics like SCN2A variants, temporal lobe epilepsy neuroimaging, and polygenic risk scores for epilepsy-related brain morphology.
He is a member of the International League Against Epilepsy and the Association of British Neurologists. His teaching includes undergraduate and postgraduate instruction at UCL, particularly on MSc courses. Recent collaborations span 15th European Epilepsy Congress, Genomics England Research Community, and multidisciplinary teams across neuroscience, genetics, and public health.
