Professor Michael G Hanna is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Neuromuscular Diseases at University College London, where he serves as Director of the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology (2012–present) and leads a major capital project for a new building opening in 2027. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Iowa and Honorary Professor at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Recent publications highlight mitochondrial genetics, CNV reanalysis, and translational neuroscience.

His leadership roles include Director of the MRC International Centre for Genomic Medicine in Neuromuscular Diseases (2022–present) and former Director of the MRC Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases (2008–2020).
