Sanja Radman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Vegetable Crops, Division for Horticulture and Landscape Architecture at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Zagreb. Employed since 2011, she progressed from Young Researcher-Assistant (2011-2015) to Postdoctoral Researcher (2015-2017) and currently holds her academic position while teaching courses in vegetable and medicinal plant production.
Education:
- 2011-2015: PhD, University of Zagreb Faculty of Agriculture, on Influence of nitrogen fertilization and cultivation methods on the chemical composition of stinging nettle (Urtica dioica L.)
- 2008-2010: Graduate study, University of Zagreb Faculty of Agriculture, on Fruit quality and postharvest occurrence phytopatogen fungi on heat treated nectarine cv. Venus
- 2005-2008: Undergraduate study, University of Zagreb Faculty of Agriculture, on Occurence of chilling injury in peach and nectarine fruits
Research Interests: Her work focuses on ecological and anthropological impacts on medicinal plant quality, introduction of protected species into cultivation, and sustainable production systems. She investigates organic/integrated vegetable farming, nutrient management in hydroponic systems, and functional properties of crops like stinging nettle and pumpkin. Her research bridges agricultural science with food security and environmental sustainability through field trials and biochemical analysis.
Grants and Projects: She coordinates major projects including Nutritivna i funkcionalna vrijednost koprive (Croatian Science Foundation, 2020-2024) on stinging nettle nutrition, and EU-funded genetic resource conservation initiatives. Her portfolio spans university-level research on microgreens and hydroponic tomatoes (2014-2018), Erasmus+ digital education programs (2021-2023), and European Social Fund teaching innovations. Project themes consistently address sustainable horticulture, crop physiology, and value-chain development.
Professional Activities: As ISHS member since 2011, she supervises the Gardening Group extracurricular program and serves on the Faculty Web Committee. Fluent in four languages, she teaches 14 courses spanning medicinal plant production, organic vegetable farming, and seed technology while maintaining active laboratory research in the Department's Garden House facility.
