Dr. Saniyat Islam is a Senior Lecturer in Fashion Enterprise and Sustainable Innovation at RMIT University's School of Fashion and Textiles. His research focuses on textile materials science, polymer science, circular economy models, and blockchain innovation in fashion systems. He leads interdisciplinary projects in medical textiles, automotive textiles, and sustainable supply-chain traceability.
Teaching emphasizes transformative student experiences through the Master of Fashion Entrepreneurship (MoFE), ranked among the world's top programs. His pedagogical approach integrates industry partnerships, digital technology, and real-world scenarios to develop cross-cultural communication skills and enterprise capabilities.
Industry collaborations include Metro Trains Melbourne safety garment studies and AgriFutures Australia-funded hemp-based wound dressing research. He serves on Standards Australia's CS-004 Textile Labelling Committee and contributes to professional bodies like The Textile Institute.
