Sandy Berkovski is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Bilkent University. He joined the department in 2005 after earning his DPhil from the University of Oxford. His research focuses on Philosophy of Science, Metaphysics, and Ethics, with particular emphasis on moral psychology, hypocrisy, imperatives, and fatalism. He has published in journals such as the Australasian Journal of Philosophy, Philosophical Studies, and Philosophia.
Berkovski’s educational background includes a PhD from the University of Oxford under Dorothy Edgington. His research interests bridge philosophy of language, metaphysics, and ethics, with recent work exploring topics like slurs’ conventional meaning, Mandeville’s moral theories, and the epistemology of debunking arguments. His teaching spans undergraduate and graduate courses in ethics, social and political philosophy, and metaphysics, with a focus on integrating historical and contemporary philosophical debates.
In his research trajectory, his articles reflect a deep engagement with moral psychology, linguistic taboos, and historical figures like Hobbes and Mandeville. His work often intersects with debates on moral epistemology and the pragmatics of moral criticism. Beyond academia, he enjoys yoga, skiing, and classical music.
