Dorothy Edgington is a prominent philosopher with extensive academic roles including Waynflete Professor of Metaphysics at the University of Oxford (2003–2006) and Professor of Philosophy at both the University of Oxford (1996–2001) and Birkbeck College, University of London (2001–2003). She has held senior positions such as Senior Research Fellow at Birkbeck (2007–2017) and visiting roles at institutions like the University of Sassari and the University of British Columbia. Her research focuses on metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of language, and logic, with contributions to vagueness, counterfactuals, and probabilistic reasoning. Edgington has been recognized as a Fellow of the British Academy since 2005 and has received honors including Honorary Fellowships at Birkbeck and St Hilda's College, Oxford.
