Sandra Rothenberg

Sandra Rothenberg is a Professor in the Department of Management at the Saunders College of Business, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), where she also serves as Chair of Public Policy and Director of the Institute for Business, Government and Society. She teaches in the areas of Organizational Behavior, Business and Society, and Sustainable Management, and maintains an affiliate faculty position with the College of Liberal Arts Public Policy Department.

Her educational background includes a BS from Syracuse University, and an MS and PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management, with her doctoral work focusing on Organizational Behavior.

Professor Rothenberg's research centers on business ethics, sustainable business, corporate social responsibility, and business and public policy. Her work explores how organizations can integrate environmental and social concerns into their core business strategies while maintaining financial performance. She investigates the relationship between lean manufacturing practices and environmental performance, the role of corporate scientists in shaping responses to climate change, and how corporate social responsibility strategies affect financial outcomes.

Her publication record shows a strong trend toward interdisciplinary research that bridges business strategy with environmental and social concerns. Recent work has expanded into healthcare policy, particularly examining FDA regulatory processes for medical devices. Her scholarship consistently demonstrates how business practices intersect with broader societal issues, including income inequality, environmental sustainability, and regulatory policy.

Her research has been published in leading journals including Strategic Management Journal, Sloan Management Review, California Management Review, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Business Ethics, and Business and Society.

Professor Rothenberg has taught courses including Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility, Sustainable Business Innovation, and Leading Teams in Organizations. Prior to joining RIT, she worked as a research associate for the Harvard Global Environmental Assessment Program, U.S. Office of Technology Assessment, and MIT Technology, Business and Environment program.
