Sandra Lim is a Professor of English at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, affiliated with the College of Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. She holds the prestigious title of 2023 Distinguished University Professor, UMass Lowell's highest academic honor for faculty members.
Lim earned her Ph.D. in English from the University of California Berkeley, an MFA in Poetry from the Iowa Writers' Workshop, and a BA in English from Stanford University. Born in Seoul, South Korea, she currently resides in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Her research focuses on Poetry & Poetics, 20th-Century & Contemporary Poetry, Asian American Studies, Creative Nonfiction, and Essay writing. Lim's work explores desire, sexuality, dream, love, art making, solitude, female fate, and both mundane and serious principles of life with sinewy intelligence and startling freshness.
Lim's publications form a cohesive exploration of contemporary poetic expression, with particular emphasis on Asian American perspectives. Her work demonstrates a remarkable ability to navigate between mystery and clarity while maintaining emotional depth and intellectual rigor.
