Sandra Huntington

Sandra Huntington serves as Senior Lecturer in Practice Learning at Canterbury Christ Church University within the School of Lifelong Learning, where she has been instrumental in clinical education since joining in 1996 after completing her Certificate in Education.

Her academic qualifications include:

• Operating Department Practitioner certification (1985)
• Certificate in Education (1995)
• MSc in Health Education & Health Promotion (2001)

Her research focuses on optimizing clinical learning environments through perioperative practice expertise, with emphasis on anaesthetics, surgical recovery, and placement design. She integrates decades of NHS clinical experience into developing supportive frameworks for student-practitioner transitions in healthcare settings.

Huntington held significant external leadership roles including:

• First ODP elected Trustee of Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) board (2008-2013)
• AfPP Journal external reviewer (2013-2015)
• Perioperative auditor for AfPP
• Royal College of Surgeons external reference panel member (2 years)

As former ODP Placement Lead and Course Director, she has guided numerous students through clinical placements while collaborating with healthcare providers to enhance real-world training experiences since assuming her current practice learning role in 2016.
