Sandra Harrisson, RN, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Ottawa, within the Faculty of Health Sciences. She holds roles as President of the Canadian Association for the History of Nursing (CANH-CAHN) and Associate Director of the Nursing History Research Unit (NHRU). Previously, she served as faculty at Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières. Her nursing practice spanned Emergency and Intensive Care Departments before transitioning to academia.

Her research focuses on the history of medicine and psychiatry, gerontopsychiatry, and sociohistorical methodologies. She actively contributes to the Pleasure Approach to Services and Care (PSASC) for memory-impaired individuals. Her work integrates feminist critical theory and action research, emphasizing patient narratives and institutional archives. Recent publications explore diagnostic modulation in psychiatry, pandemic care for women, and historical trajectories of mental health patients.
Advising and grants: She currently supervises graduate students and has engaged in research projects involving archival analysis of psychiatric hospitals (e.g., Hôpital Montfort). Her work bridges historical scholarship with contemporary healthcare practices, advocating for marginalized patient voices. She is affiliated with the Nursing History Research Unit, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations.
