Sandra Esteves

Sandra Esteves is a Professor and Associate Dean for Research and Innovation at the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science, University of South Wales. She leads the Wales Centre of Excellence for Anaerobic Digestion and specializes in bioprocess technology for resource recovery. With a PhD in Bioprocess Monitoring and Control from the University of Glamorgan (2002) and a BSc in Energy & Environmental Technology (1996), her expertise spans anaerobic digestion, waste-to-energy systems, and sustainable biotechnology.

Her research focuses on anaerobic digestion, bioprocess optimization, and circular economy strategies. She has secured over £16M in funding, led collaborative projects with industries like TATA Steel and Welsh Water, and advised UK and European renewable energy associations. Sandra has published over 70 papers, holds 3 patents, and mentors post-doctoral researchers and PhD students.
