James Reed is a Senior Lecturer in Renewable Energy at the University of South Wales, affiliated with the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science and the Sustainable Environment Research Centre. He leads the MSc Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology program and is a member of the Energy Institute.
Education: MEng (Automotive Engineering) and MSc (Renewable Energy Systems Technology) from Loughborough University, followed by a PhD on microchannel heat exchanger technology for LPG steam reforming.
Research focuses on renewable energy systems, including hydrogen integration in low-carbon networks, biohydrogen/biogas utilization with solid oxide cells, and FT-NIRS for bioprocess monitoring. His work applies multivariate statistical techniques like PCA and PLSR to optimize anaerobic digestion and enhance lignocellulosic feedstock performance.
Key achievements include a 2019 2nd Prize poster Award for collaborative work on anaerobic digestion monitoring. His contributions span 29 peer-reviewed publications and active participation in net-zero energy conferences.
Labs/Teams: Involved with the Sustainable Environment Research Centre and collaborates internationally on energy systems research.
