Sandra Cortesi is a leading academic and researcher in digital ethics and youth technology engagement. As a Fellow at Harvard University's Berkman Klein Center, Senior Research and Teaching Associate at the IKMZ (Institute for Media and Communication Management) at the University of Zurich, and Adjunct Researcher at BI Norwegian Business School, her work bridges academia, policy, and practice. She specializes in youth digital participation, AI governance, privacy, and inclusive technology design.
Her research focuses on youth's digital experiences, including AI literacy, information quality, and emerging technologies like extended reality (XR). She co-founded the Digitally Connected project and leads initiatives such as the Digital Citizenship+ Resource Platform. Cortesi collaborates globally with organizations like UNESCO, UNICEF, OECD, and governments to translate research into actionable policies.
Key projects include the Frontiers in Digital Child Safety initiative, exploring ethical AI frameworks, and the Metaverse: Centering Inclusion project. She advises on digital rights, youth participation, and privacy in education. Her work emphasizes participatory, interdisciplinary approaches to address global challenges like misinformation and digital inequality.
Cortesi’s Global Network of Internet & Society Research Centers fosters international collaboration on digital self-determination. She also leads the Youth and Media program, empowering young people through co-design and advocacy. Her contributions span over 100 publications, with recent focus on generative AI ethics and youth engagement in corporate and civic spaces.
