Samuel Miao-Sin Wu is a Professor at Baylor College of Medicine, holding concurrent roles in the Department of Ophthalmology, Neuroscience, and Molecular Physiology & Biophysics. He also holds the Camille and Raymond Hankamer Chair in Ophthalmology. His research focuses on retinal physiology, synaptic signaling pathways, and mechanisms underlying retinal cell death in diseases like glaucoma and macular degeneration.
Education includes an AB in Physics and Biophysics from UC Berkeley (1973), a PhD in Biophysics from Harvard University (1979), and postdoctoral training in Neurobiology at UC Berkeley (1981).
He has received numerous awards, including the Alcon Research Institute Award and Friedenwald Award, recognizing his contributions to vision research. Current grants from the National Eye Institute and Retina Research Foundation support projects such as 'Physiology and Pharmacology of Synapses in the Retina' and 'Pharmacological and Genetic Mechanisms of Retinal Cell Death.'
