Samuel Kwabena Obeng is an Assistant Professor (Teaching Focused) in the Department of Economics at the University of Warwick. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of East Anglia (UEA), Norwich, and is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA). His research focuses on political economy, public finance, intergovernmental fiscal relations, and globalization. He coordinates Warwick Economics-Africa initiatives and contributes to the Warwick Africa Hub Steering Committee.
Teaching responsibilities include modules such as EC331: Research in Applied Economics (Co-Module Leader), EC204: Macroeconomics 2, and EC959: MSc Economics Dissertation. He also supervises dissertations for MSc Finance and Economics programs. His grants include a 2023 Warwick Research Development Fund (RDF) Strategic Award on consumer credit market dignity and equity gaps, co-led with Dr. Joy Malala and Dr. Beatrice Gobbo.
Research interests span fiscal decentralization, political alignment effects on fiscal outcomes, and the macroeconomic impacts of globalization. Notable works include analyses of vertical fiscal imbalance and Ghana’s government spending dynamics. He actively participates in policy discussions through events like the National Budget Roundtable and UNCTAD-Warwick-Africa initiatives.
